Why phages — three things antibiotics can't do.

Bacteriophages are viruses that infect and destroy bacteria. Discovered in 1915, suppressed by the rise of broad-spectrum antibiotics, and now back at the front of the microbiome conversation as antibiotic resistance reshapes commercial animal production. They do three things antibiotics fundamentally cannot.

Each phage attacks a specific bacterial genotype. Beneficial microbiota — Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and the rest of the gut ecology — are untouched. Broad-spectrum antibiotics flatten everything.

Targeted control of Clostridium perfringens, the agent of necrotic enteritis. Four internal study formats — feed supplementation, therapy, vaccine candidate, and environmental application — have already demonstrated bacterial-load reductions of 70–90%.

Evidence status — mandatory disclosure. The E. coli + Salmonella phage backbone is validated in vivo across three peer-reviewed poultry trials (broilers n=1,500 · layers n=2,400 · Ma-chicken n=1,050). The C. perfringens phage component in FORTE P and FORTE P2 is platform-supported — in vitro lytic activity confirmed; a confirmatory field trial is planned. VIBRA FORTE has validated in vitro lytic activity against Vibrio aquaculture pathogens (Komipharm, South Korea); in vivo aquaculture field trial data is being accumulated through ongoing commercial programs.

Clostridium control — previewing PHAGIX™ CLOSTRA.

Four study formats have already characterized PHAGIX phage activity against Clostridium perfringens — the agent of necrotic enteritis. Bacterial-load reductions of 70–90% across feed, therapy, and environmental application. These trials inform the upcoming PHAGIX™ CLOSTRA single-pathogen product.
